The birthing process is the most traumatic experience we ever put our bodies though, add a cesarean section or the use of the vacuum and this only increases the amount of possible trauma the child’s neck and spine can endure. No, they are not adjusted in the same manner as adults. Very gentle adjusting techniques are used on infants and pediatric patients-think the pressure you would use when checking the ripeness of a tomato. We will walk you and your child through every step of the exam and adjustment. We often don’t associate children and chiropractic care because kids don’t commonly have back or neck pain, but the effects of the chiropractic adjustment are much greater than pain relief. Some parents report less irritability (even in teens), better digestion, fewer colds and flu, and improved sleeping patterns. Parents today are eager and searching for alternative options rather than always turning to medications. Chiropractic care is a drug-free and non-invasive, holistic approach to health care. Why would a baby need chiropractic care? The birth process is a traumatic one even if you have a “normal” delivery. In addition to this when interventions are used such as forceps, vacuum, c- section a great deal of uncontrolled force is applied to an undeveloped spine and nervous system predominately at the neck. We highly recommend every parent to bring their baby in to be checked by about 2 weeks of age, but it’s never too late to initiate care. As baby grows and different milestones are achieved this is a good time for follow up care. Parents often notice when a child begins to walk and actively play, they are falling more frequently, bumping their heads etc. These are great times for kids to be brought into the office, evaluated and adjusted if needed. Within the first year of life our spinal column doubles in length! Chiropractic care allows for the most optimal function of the nervous system and the removal of interference caused by spinal misalignments.
